Recently, the 2017 Michelin Guide to the Main Cities of Europe unveiled the restaurants that have been awarded with three, two or one stars. Michelin inspectors presented us with the places that encapsulate everything incredible about the world of food and drink! And, of course, Greece could not be absent.

Funky Gourmet and Spondi restaurants managed to retain their 2 stars, whereas Botrini’s, Ηytra and Varoulko restaurants retained their 1 star. Up-and-coming gems that were awarded for simple yet skilful cooking for under £28 or €40 are: Bib Gourmands, Nolan, Athiri and Oikeio! Congrats to all!

Greek Michelin stars

Spondi: 2 stars
“A discreet, intimate restaurant with two delightful courtyards and two equally charming dining rooms – one an elegant room built from reclaimed bricks in the style of a vaulted cellar. Top quality seasonal ingredients are used in imaginative, deftly executed and stunningly presented modern French dishes. Greek, French and Italian wines feature on an impressive list.”
5 Pyronos, off Varnava Sq, Pangrati, Athens, tel. +30 210 7564021

From €73 to €136

Funky Gourmet: 2 stars
“A charming neoclassical house in downtown Athens, off the main tourist track. The minimalist black, white and grey first floor dining room looks out over the city. Wonderfully well-crafted, innovative dishes feature unusual but well-thought-through combinations, and many display playful, theatrical elements.”
13 Paramythias St and Salaminos, Keramikos, Athens, tel. +30 210 5242727
From €90 to €150

Botrini’s: 1 star
“A converted school in a quiet suburb – now a passionately run restaurant with an ultra-modern interior, a sleek glass-fronted kitchen and verdant terraces. Appealing modern Mediterranean menus feature local produce in creative, attractively presented dishes. Many of the oils, salamis and wines are produced by the family.”
24B Vasileos Georgiou, Chalandri, Athens, tel. +30 210 6857324
From €55 to €90

Hytra: 1 star
Take the express lift up to the 6th floor of the striking Onassis Cultural Centre; here you’ll find a sultry restaurant looking out over Syngrou. Classic Greek recipes are executed in a refined modern manner – for something a little different try the cocktail pairings. They also offer a bistro menu at the bar.
Onassis Cultural Centre (6th Floor), 107-109 Syngrou Ave C3, Athens, tel. +30 210 3316767
From €58 to €75

Varoulko: 1 star
“Varoulko sits in a great spot in Mikrolimano Marina – the chef’s old neighbourhood. Watch the yachts glide by from the maritime-themed dining room which opens onto the water. Greek and Mediterranean dishes feature organic vegetables, Cretan olive oil and the freshest seafood; squid and octopus feature highly.”
Akti Koumoundourou 52, Mikrolimano Marina, Piraeus Port, tel. +30 210 5228400
