Savoury and cheesy, these mini doughnuts are the perfect snack before a main course. Use any kind of fresh cheese you like.

Serves: 13-16 pieces Prep. time: 15′ Cooks in: 15′ Ready in: 30′

1 cup milk
1 egg
½ orange, zested
self-rising flour
300 g anthotyro cheese or another fresh cheese
vegetable oil for frying
½ cup sesame seeds, toasted
runny honey
cinnamon powder (optionally)


Step 1
In a bowl whisk milk, egg and orange zest until incorporated. Add flour in batches whisking until you get a thick batter.

Step 2
Put fresh cheese in a bowl, crush with a fork and form little walnut-sized balls.

Step 3
In a deep frying pan heat oil well. Dip cheese balls in batter and fry in oil until golden. Drain for a minute on kitchen paper, then roll in sesame seeds. Transfer on a platter, sprinkle with cinnamon if you wish and drizzle with runny hone. Serve warm.
